Venice Gondoliers Sing for Obama - Again

If you didn’t get enough of the first video of the Venice gondoliers singing their politically bastardized version of “Volare” when I posted it before, you’ll be pleased to know that they’ve released a follow-up video. Now, don’t be expecting a new song, or anything - they’re perfectly comfortable to rest on their laurels and reprise their big hit. But this time, there’s a chorus of Americans who live in Venice who have joined them for the video shoot.

I’m told by my friend Johann, who lives in Venice and who knows the gondoliers in the video, that they’re loving their unexpected fame. I’m hell-bent on meeting them the next time I’m in Venice. Maybe by then they’ll have a new song.

That was cute! Did they write the lyrics themselves or did they get a little help from their American friends?

No, they wrote that themselves - you can see just the Italians singing it in the first video. I hear from my Venetian friend (who knows the gondoliers involved) that one of them is married to an American woman, so perhaps that’s how it started. I just think it’s adorable. :)
