Hi, Laurel:

Y'know, I hadn't heard of Lake Bracciano, but I just looked it up and it's only around 30km from Rome. La Posta Vecchia is also just outside Rome, so it sounds like not only is it do-able, it's fantastic. :) Are you staying in Rome that last night, after dinner at La Posta Vecchia? Or are you staying overnight at LPV as well?

Have a fantastic time!

We're going to be in Rome for 4 days at the very end of Sept treating ourselves to Hassler Hotel... then driving to Lake Bracciano, using that as a base for 3 days to tool around; driving a couple of hours to Porto Ercole for lunch, and then going to La Posta Vecchia for dinner on our last night. I hope this is do-able because we've confirmed everything already. Sooo excited. Can't wait. Freaking out, in fact.
What do you think of this plan?

These are amazing suggestions. We stayed in Tivoli and went to the Villa d’Este; it was breathtaking! It's amazing how quickly the hours pass walking through the gardens and admiring the fountains.

There is a direct train service from Rome to Assisi. The ride takes 1hr57 minutes by 'Eurosta' train ... excellent service.

As if I don't have enough to say with all the links above, Anzio is a great place. Right next to the Hotel Lida Garda is a wonderful family-run restaurant with great, fresh seafood.

At Ostia Lido, take the train that leaves from Pyramide and get off at the last stop. Then walk across the street and go to the Venezia stabilimento. It's pricey, but worth it for the sunbed service and they have a decent cafeteria.

Make sure to pick up some fresh mozzarella with your choice of toppings from the roadside stands on your way back from Sperlonga - YUM.
