In the Lunigiana bars don't advertise anything has happy hour, but you can get a two euro prosecco and a whole table full of nibbly bits for free. And they bring them to you.

"It’s like those waiters who don’t need to write down your order - it’s a mystery to me how they manage to keep it all straight!"

The last three waiters that have done this to me haven't gotten it right at all.

Aperitivo is a national pastime in Italy. Virtually every bar in the country serves some sort of nibbles at aperitivo hour. Italians think it unwise and unhealthy not to be nibbling on something while they sip a drink.
The "Appy Hour" designation is a recent thing, but apertivo has probably been happening since Etruscan times! Cin!

People often pay as they go, but otherwise I have no idea. It's like those waiters who don't need to write down your order - it's a mystery to me how they manage to keep it all straight!

This is good! How difficult is it for the staff to keep track of how many drinks you've had, especially if it's busy?
