All you have to say is “island off the coast of Italy” to make most budget travelers look elsewhere for a place to stay. And who can blame them? Islands tend to be the playgrounds of the rich and famous – and when you’re talking about Ischia, the biggest island off the coast near Naples and the Amalfi Coast, that description is particularly apt. But Ischia doesn’t have to be off-limits if you’re a budget traveler.
Among the listings for hostels in Ischia you may find a few traditional dorm-style hostels, but keep in mind that you’re also likely to find many small, family-run hotels (the kind of places that have only a few rooms and may have shared bathrooms) or even B&Bs, but they’re often much cheaper then the going rate at the bigger hotels in the area.
