Arriving in Hot & Humid Milan

Some people travel well. Some people are able to sleep on planes, arrive at their destination refreshed and well-rested, ready to explore a new place and take on the world.
I am not one of those people.
I used to be able to sleep on planes, but I seem to have lost that gift. Which means that I’m one of those travelers who actually doesn’t like travel days very much at all. As I keep telling friends, I love the being there – it’s the getting there I could do without.
Which is why it was so nice to arrive in Milan yesterday and be immediately taken in and taken care of by my friends here. I feel incredibly fortunate to be so well-looked-after, especially as yesterday I was in a haze from the combination of traveling and the heat/humidity that’s cloaking Milan. The good news is that by the evening, when we went out for walk through Parco Sempione, an aperitivo, and dinner, the weather was just overly warm and no longer oppressive. I even managed to stay awake and reasonably coherent until nearly 11pm local time, although I’m not sure I remember everything I said.
Today, it’s been hot and humid again, and as I’m someone who doesn’t cope well with high heat and humidity (not to mention when said heat and humidity follows a travel day), I’ve spent most of it napping and generally laying low. I’ve got a couple errands to run, which I’ll probably do shortly, but I’m glad I don’t have the kind of go-go-go agenda that would make me feel guilty for just taking it easy on my first day here. And again, I’m eternally grateful to my friends who are letting me sack out in their apartment.
I’ll be heading for Rome tomorrow afternoon, so may not be online again until early next week, but hopefully by that point I’ll have lots of pictures to share, too.
