  • Blogging Pompeii: Notte dei Musei 2011

Great news, that "Museum Night" is back in Italy this year. The less-great news – this is the first I've heard of it (on May 11) and Museum Night is on May 14. If you're in Italy on May 14, however, be on the lookout for free late-night museum admissions! (via @photosofpompeii & @saverome on Twitter)

  • ‘Jersey Shore’ grounded

The Jersey Shore in Italy just can't catch a break (thank goodness). It appears now that the show has had its filming permits in Florence's historic sites revoked entirely. According to the NY Post, "filming of the reality show has been delayed indefinitely." (via @OneTravel on Twitter)

  • Speak Italian Magically by Antonio Libertino

I know I'm not the only one who struggles to learn Italian, and although I'm not sure when I'd find time to set aside for this method it definitely sounds innovative. It sounds like the closest thing to "learning by osmosis," which is something I recall wishing for quite often during Algebra in high school…

  • Italians evacuate Rome over ‘big one’ fears

An urban legend based on a 1915 "prediction" of a huge earthquake in Rome on May 11, 2011 led to many Romans fleeing the city on the 10th – just in case. The city was working overtime to try to relieve fears, but for some people that clearly wasn't working. (via @NG_Rome on Twitter)

  • George Clooney Celebrates 50 by Doing Lame Italian Ad

Ad Week doesn't like George Clooney's latest commercial for Italian web company Fastweb. But you could probably tell that just by the title, eh? (via @michellefabio on Twitter)

  • La traversata in gondola

In a recent visit to Venice, Pope Benedict XVI took a ride in a specially-made gondola – this one was white, when traditional Venetian gondolas are always black. Check out the photo of the Pope in his white gondola here. (The article about the visit is in Italian, but there are more photos if you're interested in them –

  • Wouter Weylandt dies after stage 3 crash at the Giro d’Italia

Very sad news from the Giro d'Italia – a Belgian rider died after crashing on a descent during stage 3 on Monday, May 9. This rider won stage 3 of last year's Giro, and was reportedly catapulted 20 meters after getting his pedal caught in a wall during the descent. Our thoughts are with his family.

  • Episode 42: How Italian Food Conquered the World with John Mariani

I wasn't able to be on this episode of Eye on Italy, and I'm even more bummed about that after listening – it's a really interesting look at Italian food with an historic context.

  • Clooney sweetheart Canalis strips for animal rights

My favorite line from this article, without question, is a quote from Canalis herself: "I think this is the best reason why I got naked in my life."
