One of the things many travelers I know enjoy most about traveling is the opportunity to meet people. Sometimes that means meeting other travelers in the hostel lounge, or having a lovely conversation with the couple across from you on a train ride, and sometimes it means meeting up with locals in the city you’re visiting who are willing to share travel tips and conversation over a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. If that sounds like the kind of thing you like to do when you travel, and if you use Facebook, then I’ve got an announcement I think you’ll really enjoy.
BootsnAll, the parent company of WhyGo Italy, has created a Facebook app called BootsnAll Traveler Connect that will help you connect with people in the locations to which you’re traveling as well as other travelers in those places – all through the Facebook system you know and love. Facebook is so good at helping you reconnect with people you already know (or knew), and travel helps you connect with people you don’t know. BootsnAll Traveler Connect helps you do both.
When you add BootsnAll Traveler Connect to your Facebook profile, all you need to do next is type in a destination into the “Where are you headed?” box. From that destination’s page, you can then add yourself to that place as either a “local” (someone who lives there) or a “traveler” (someone who’s visiting). At the same time, you can see all the other people who have already added themselves as locals or travelers. Click on a person’s profile to send them a message – ask a local for travel advice, or arrange to meet another traveler who’ll be there the same time you will. You don’t have to add people as Facebook friends, and you can still interact with them through BootsnAll Traveler Connect.
While BootsnAll Traveler Connect is still new, you may not find locals or travelers in every single city – but as it grows, we think it will be an excellent way to connect with people all over the world. I’m looking forward to the day when it’s populated with all kinds of people in Italy that I can visit whenever I’m there!
