<description>For me, the best of those Italian beaches, including the most beautiful, may be found in undiscovered Maremma in Tuscany and Lazio. Maremma has over 250 kilometres of spectacular coastline with the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian Seas. From intimate fine white sand coves to wide stretches of golden sand that are kilometres long and perfect for horse-riding. To black sands with multi-coloured umbrellas, and rocky coves that are protected from the afternoon scirroco winds and offer a tranquility and haven for relaxation, Maremma has them all.

How about a beach with an ancient Etruscan Civilization? Baratti Beach
This gorgeous golden sand beach is situated within the small Golfo di Baratti, along the spectacular Etruscan Coast, &quot;Costa degli Estruchi&quot;, in Maremma Livornese. It is great for families as there is a picnic area and shadey &quot;pineta&quot;, pine tree area, in which to cool down out of the heat of the summer sun.

And for those who love a bit of history whilst on holiday, it is home to current archeological excavations of an ancient Etruscan civilisation. Populonia, on the hill top over looking the Gulf is where the Etruscans built their only city by the sea. Visit and you will instantly know why.

Or a beach with a Medieval Tower: Torre Mozza
Also in the Golf of Follonica, Torre Mozza beach takes its name from the medieval tower that sits on the waters edge. It is a public beach, &quot;spiaggia libera&quot;, with golden sands and a great view of the whole of the Gulf sweeping from the ancient port of Piombino, past Torre di Sale, Torre Mozza, the seaside resort town of Follonica, the white tower of Torre Civette, and lastly to the promontory and southern-most point of the Gulf at the millionaire sailing port of Punta Ala. Sit on its sands and watch the pink and orange sunset over the Island of Elba. Paradise.

Maremma has over ninety beautiful beaches. If you are thinking of visiting Tuscany, look towards the coast on your Italy map and find Maremma. It offers spectacular scenery, tranquil medieval hill towns, wonderful Super Tuscan wines, and the main tourist attractions of Pisa, Siena, Firenze, San Gimignano, Volterra, and Roma are all within easy reach. Visit and let the beauty of this land capture your heart...
