Depending on who you talk to, using a travel agent to plan your trip to Italy is either a must or unnecessary. If you’ve got all the time in the world, an infinite amount of patience, access to top-notch travel resources and the ability to remain calm when things go wrong, more power to you - you can probably handle vacation planning on your own. If, on the other hand, you lead a busy life and you want someone else to make all the arrangements and - this is the critical part - be on hand to fix it when something goes wrong, you’ll want to find a good travel agent.
Finding the right travel agent can be tricky, especially when you’re not sure which ones have special connections to Italy or offer one-of-a-kind tours that you won’t find elsewhere. I mean, everyone can offer you a Rome-Florence-Venice trip, right? Honestly, you could probably plan that trip yourself. What you’re looking for when hunting down a travel agent or tour company is their Italian expertise, because that’s what’s going to make the difference between an average trip and a trip of a lifetime.
