What ItalyLogue was

ItalyLogue started in 2006 as the Italy Logue, one of the destination blogs in the BootsnAll Travel Network. For a while it was renamed WhyGo Italy and became part of BootsnAll’s WhyGo series of travel guides. Through all of it, it was a one-stop Italy travel guide: how to get there, how to get around, where to stay, what to eat and what to do once you arrive.

It was written by Jessica Spiegel from 2006 until May 2012. BootsnAll sent her to Italy many times over those years, and the guide grew out of those trips: train routes she rode, gelato she ate, hotels she checked, cities she fell for. You can read her first post, Welcome to the Italy Logue.

Jessica has an affection for every country she visits, but something about Italy just stuck with her. She loves the way food is raised to an art form without being stuffy, the way Italians are more serious about where they’re from than what they do for a living, and the way the language itself feels in her mouth.

But perhaps above all, she treasures the way the Italian predisposition for chaos has taught her to go with the flow, be prepared for whatever, focus on what’s important, and take the little things less seriously.

What ItalyLogue is now

ItalyLogue is still part of BootsnAll, which has been publishing for independent travelers since the late 1990s.

In 2026 we went back through every one of the site’s roughly 1,300 pages. The ones that no longer made sense came out. The ones that stayed are being checked against current sources, because a lot has changed since 2012: Alitalia is gone, the big sights have gone to timed tickets, and train fares no longer look anything like the ones in the old posts. When a page has been checked, you’ll see an “Updated” line under its title. Pages without that line still read as they did when they were written, so treat their prices, hours and venues as a starting point and check before you go.

The photos

Jessica took photos on all those trips, and they belong to the site. We’ve gathered 151 of them in the ItalyLogue photo gallery, and the original ItalyLogue Flickr account is still up, too.
