The city of Udine is the capital of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region in the northeast of Italy, not far from the Slovenian border. This part of Italy hasn’t always been part of Italy, so there are influences from Germany and Slovenia – and not only that, this is one of the country’s autonomous regions, so you’re just as likely to see signs written in the Friulano language as you are Italian.
Udine is not a small town, so there are accommodation options spread all over the place. Finding a place to stay that’s in or near the city center is usually the best option to help you make the most of your time in the city. Be sure to look for both budget hotels as well as traditional hostels on the map below – price-wise, there are some hotels that will likely still be appealing to budget travelers.
