Hotels in Positano

Of the many towns that dot the coastline of the Amalfi, Positano is perhaps the most popular. Because of this, it’s also one of the more expensive towns to stay in on the Amalfi Coast. Not only that, many people choose to stay for longer periods in rental apartments rather than hotels, so Positano isn’t as draped in hotels as you might imagine.
Still, there are hotels in Positano, and there are some that won’t cost a fortune. Positano is an incredibly vertical city, and reaching some of the hotels can require a hike up steep stairs to different upper levels of the town - so be sure to find out precisely how far you’ll have to walk to get to your hotel (and this may be a good incentive to pack light).

Positano stacks down a ravine to its main beach, Spiaggia Grande, where the boats leave for Amalfi and Capri in season. The town itself is the sight: the tiled dome of Santa Maria Assunta, the lemon groves and the view back up from the water. If you like to walk, the Path of the Gods trail runs along the cliffs high above town and ends at Nocelle, from where you can take the steps or a local bus back down.

SITA buses run along the coast road from Sorrento and Amalfi, and in season ferries come in from Salerno, Amalfi and Sorrento. Come in May, June or September if you can. August is packed.
