Sicily is far less visited than the regions of northern Italy, but it’s overrun compared to the even more remote Italian island of Sardinia (Sardegna, in Italian). This island – just south of French Corsica – is incredibly popular in August, however, when Italians flee the cities and lie on the beach for a month. Cagliari is one of the island’s main cities, and although it can be relatively inexpensive for much of the year it pays to research the hostels in Cagliari especially if you’re planning a beach-oriented visit.
Rates on hotel rooms and other accommodation options can go through the roof when the nice weather hits, because the beaches of Sardinia are so popular. So although not all of the places on the map below are traditional hostels with bunk beds and common rooms, they’re all budget-friendly places that will help you save money on your trip.
