When we last visited Italy, the husband and I also spent about a week just north of Split on the Dalmatian coast in Croatia. We’d seen pictures of the country the year before, and it looked beautiful. We’re not the only ones to think that - more and more tourists are visiting Croatia, often jumping over the Adriatic from their trips to Italy. Every so often there will be a question in the Europe forum of the BootsnAll Community asking how one gets to Croatia by ferry from Italy - so when I found a website with some information about it, I thought I’d mention it here.
This website seems to have information about several ferry companies (both Italian and Croatian) which make the journey between various points in Italy and Croatia, though I believe there are other companies which provide similar services and which aren’t listed here. One of them is detailed on this site, which has some all-around good information for any ferry trip across the Adriatic. The primary tip is that while there are more sailings during the busy summer months, they will still fill up fast - so if you’re hoping to make the trans-Adriatic journey during the summer, book your passage now (especially if you’ve got a car) as space will still be limited. You should be able to reserve your space on the first website mentioned, this one, for any one of the various routes between the two countries.
During our trip to Croatia last year, we were chatting with a Croatian tour guide (she was leading a group of German tourists around and was happy to have a chance to practice her English) and she told us that more and more Italians are coming to Croatia on holiday. When we asked her why she thought that was, she said, “It’s the water - Italians don’t want to swim in the Adriatic on their side anymore, it’s too dirty. They come over here to swim now.” I’m quite sure Italians would have something to say about that, but I have to admit - the water in Croatia is stunning…
