Hotels in Pisa

Pisa is home to one of the most famous buildings in the entire country of Italy, yet it remains a city that’s far more popular as a day trip option than a place to spend the night. That’s a shame, since (as is the case with most day trip cities in Italy) it’s a completely different city in the mornings and the evenings before it’s overrun with day-trippers.
To experience the other side of Pisa, you’ll need to find a place to stay. Despite being such a popular day trip destination, there are plenty of hotels to choose from in Pisa - partly because this city is home to one of Italy’s major universities, which also gives the city a youthful and international flair beyond what you’d expect from ordinary tourism. And really, if you steer clear of the square around the Leaning Tower of Pisa (after snapping the obligatory shot, of course), you might miss the hordes of tourists altogether.

Once you've seen the tower, the cathedral and the baptistery on the Piazza dei Miracoli, walk down to Piazza dei Cavalieri, where the Scuola Normale fills a palace covered in sgraffito decoration. Near the station, Keith Haring's big Tuttomondo mural covers the back wall of a church, and the walk along the Arno at sunset is the best free thing in town.

Pisa's airport is the main gateway to Tuscany, and the PisaMover shuttle links it with Pisa Centrale in a few minutes. Florence is about an hour away by train, and Lucca about half an hour.
