Turin played host to the Olympic Winter Games in 2006, but the city is home to one of the Catholic church’s most treasured relics - so it’s been a destination for religious pilgrims and the curious alike for quite a long time. In addition to the Shroud of Turin, however, the city of Turin (Torino in Italian) is also known for its culinary contributions - notably in the chocolate world. The famous chocolate-hazelnut gianduia comes from Turin, and Ferrero, the company that makes Nutella, started out in Alba, about an hour to the south.
